This was a challenging project, with strict council residential planning regulations in place within the North Sydney Council. The design brief required 20 contemporary two—and three-bedroom terrace-style residences with an architectural focus on privacy, individuality, flexible space, and functional living. The design must respect the area’s existing streetscape, character, scale, form, and materials integration under the North Sydney Council residential planning framework.
The developer and the North Sydney Council welcomed the Plaoust Churcher Architects’ design. The terrace-style development delivered privacy and a unique identity for each residence. The landscaped gardens softened the built form, internal lofts offered flexible living space, and open-plan living areas enhanced comfort, ease, natural light, and connection. The terraces created a sense of ownership, and the colour palette and material usage allowed the built area to integrate with its surroundings rather than compete against them.
