Finalist in the housing industry awards
A finalist in the housing industry awards, this Narrabeen residential terrace project set a new benchmark for intelligent height design. The project centred on designing 18 contemporary two —and three-bedroom terrace homes. Each home was connected through internal access from the underground car park, which ensured off-street parking and kept the residential street clear of parked cars from the complex.
It was important to recognise each terrace as an individual home. The Playoust Churcher team incorporated a balanced mix of colour, materials, and facade treatments, giving each terrace its unique singularity while maintaining impartial cohesiveness across the entire site.
The outcome
The Northern Beaches Council has stringent residential planning controls on height limits. We saw this as an opportunity to create rather than a barrier to overcome. Part of the design incorporates a wave-inspired roof form. This architectural intelligence enabled each terrace to include two stories of living space, and each residence enjoys a rooftop terrace with unobstructed water views. Blade-style screen walls provided privacy, and the north-facing aspect maximised the full sun and enhanced the street and water vistas.
