Bill is a developer with many years of experience in medium density housing. He has worked on a wide range of projects but in recent years his focus has been on SEPP Seniors living.
In that time Bill has worked exclusively with Playoust Churcher Architects on five SEPP Seniors housing projects that span the Northern Beaches. The first project was in North Narrabeen, then North Cromer, followed by Forestville, Wheeler Heights and the most recent project is in Freshwater.
“Luke Playoust has done a number of SEPP Seniors projects and we came across Playoust Churcher after seeing the terrific design they had done on past projects. I gave them a call and started to work them. We’ve been using them ever since.”
“It is a particular market and other architects don’t understand it as well as Luke does.
They clearly know this marketplace. They know the seniors market. They know the space requirements and they just do a good job of the SEPP Seniors market.”
For Bill, SEPP Seniors living just makes commercial sense. He knows that those in the seniors market are downsizing and they will pay good money for well designed, fit for purpose housing.
And in this market, understanding how it all works – from the SEPP Seniors living guidelines to good design that will sell – is so important.
“In one of the projects we worked on together, the planning lawyer we hired didn’t think we could get 12 units on the site. Luke was able to show them that we could do it and that extra unit really made it a much more feasible project for us.”
More than just knowing the market, Luke and the team at Playoust Churcher are highly skilled in business and the business of building.
“Luke understands construction, too. He understands cost and building methods so he is particularly good at making sure the designs are buildable and they can come in on budget.
He knows that we are developers who are selling to make a profit. So the design and how it will be built are important. You’ve got site constraints and neighbours and slopes and all of those other challenges… his ability to think a project through and decide how to best do it for the site and our budget is outstanding.”
“Luke is very easy to work with. He doesn’t have airs and graces. He is just a good thinking architect who has been in the business a long time and understands what we need. He has a good team in John Michael who works on the detail drawing. The team just knows the business and it’s been a great co-working relationship.”
As a small team of two, when Bill is developing a SEPP Seniors living project, it’s vital that each piece works in harmony. The process with Playoust Churcher is one they have now been through five times over… and it’s a process that clearly works.
Sharon and Kwan purchased their 1930s Pymble home with the aim to renovate. The home had good bones but features such as an external laundry and narrow garage meant that the home needed an upgrade for modern family living.
Lisa is a keen gardener. In fact her passion was so great that she left her career in corporate insolvency to move into landscape design. So when she renovated her 6500m2 estate in St Ives, she started with the garden.
