Luke Beasley

Luke Beasley knows architecture and knows the architectural process well, having undertaken every part of the building and design process during his 30+ year-long career here in Australia and across international borders.

After an idyllic country upbringing in Northern NSW Luke moved to Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs finding work as a trade assistant with a high-end residential builder before furthering his experience in landscape construction. Luke then headed overseas for a few years travelling and working on some interesting and historic construction projects in London and France including a historic farmhouse in Hossegor, Southwest France.

On his return to Australia, Luke completed his trade as a carpenter and joiner and has since worked as a licensed tradesman on quality residential and commercial projects, as a furniture maker, and as a set builder on feature films. He later pursued a career in architecture after being inspired by the architectural process which nourishes a simple idea to become something extraordinary.

Luke names Sri Lankan modernist Geoffrey Bawa as an early influence, having been inspired by Bawa’s distinctive modernist architectural style so appropriate for the Sri Lankan environment and given life on paper through his beautiful drawings.

After ten years’ experience working in architecture and landscape design, Luke set up his building and landscape design business and completed the Master of Architecture post-graduate degree. After another busy decade in that role, Luke looked for a situation that would challenge him, provide an improved work-life balance and an opportunity to work with like-minded, professional and family-oriented colleagues.

Luke was impressed by Playoust Churcher’s portfolio and was drawn to the firm’s heritage expertise. He feels Playoust Churcher expertly balances contemporary design with a traditional approach that keeps the design intent and client expectation front and centre, so he joined the team.

“What we do is an art. We use design, building expertise from a location and environment perspective, industry knowledge and big picture thinking to bring an idea to life. Often the result surpasses expectations, which is what we strive for.”

When Luke is not working on projects he enjoys the outdoors, music and gardening, spending time with family and friends, and getting involved in the kitchen.
