Major alterations and additions were made to an existing 1940’s cottage, transforming a dated, dark, small house with poor relationship to its garden into a light filled, energy efficient, contemporary family home.

The house was re-planned with a split-level addition to the rear. This allowed the new kitchen and family room to open directly to a covered entertaining deck in the garden and maximised the potential of the site fall to provide a new laundry, cellar and store at the lowest level.

A large ventilated sky window was integrated into the design of the new stairwell in the centre of the house. This formed a linking element between the old and new portions of the house and brought natural light and ventilation into the heart of the house.
