We have a rich legacy of delivering architectural brilliance for our clients who value the fusion of tradition and innovation in their envious heritage residences.
Tucked away amidst the picturesque landscape of Sydney’s north shore lie myriad heritage-listed homes and residences nestled within conservation zones. These architectural gems enrich the tapestry of history and design diversity woven into the region’s fabric. These homes, steeped in stories of the past and architectural significance, hold a special place within our cultural heritage.
Renovating such properties presents a delicate balance between honoring their storied past and infusing them with contemporary functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Beyond bricks and mortar, these properties serve as living legacies, encapsulating the essence of bygone eras, cultural nuances, and architectural styles.
This stunning Lindfield home is located in a heritage conservation area, so finding an architect who could help this client navigate the complexities of renovating in a heritage area was top of mind.
“At the time, we looked online at a lot of houses. We saw that Playoust Churcher was responsible for the renovation of a home on the same street as the one we bought. We liked the look and feel of that home and were drawn to their heritage and conservation experience.”

The description penned by Lisa Davies of Belle Property Lindfield perfectly articulates the end result.
“Meticulous craftsmanship, modern classic design and every possible luxury guaranteed to impress even the most discerning of prestige buyers, this newly remastered family estate is a new residential landmark for Killara’s prized east side. I love the scale and quality of this property. It is finished to the highest of standards with many unique imported design elements thought out.”

In contrast to the timeless allure of heritage homes, contemporary residential design offers a bold exploration of modernity and innovation. From sleek lines to expansive glass facades, contemporary homes redefine luxury living, emphasising clean aesthetics and cutting-edge technology. Showcasing open floor plans, minimalist interiors, and sustainable features, reflecting the dynamic lifestyles of today’s homeowners, Playoust Churcher’s architectural diversity is much sought after by clients wanting a contemporary home that illustrates their individuality.
A local client commissioned Playoust Churcher to design a new family home. The owners purchased the site due to not only its north-facing rear yard, but also due to it being one of the widest blocks of land in the area.
As a result, the brief was to maximise the views and sense of space from the majority of living areas. We designed this home to accommodate a growing family as well to cater for guests and allow for multigenerational living.

Playoust Churcher Architects designed this three-level contemporary residence on the North Shore to integrate living areas with external spaces.
Twin pavilions maximise sunlight penetration, providing transparent spacial separations within the house. Integrated into the slope with a stepping central entry creates the focal point of the home and muted natural colours blend the necessary sensitively to the leafy suburban environment.
Playoust Churcher Architects’ versatility extends beyond heritage homes and designing contemporary dwellings. We have extensive expertise in alterations and additions and multi-residential living.
Our combination of creativity, process, and expertise at every touchpoint, including design, council compliance, interiors, contract tender, and project management, ensures we offer the highest standards of architectural services.
